Girls outnumber boys in West Bengal schools – survey

According to a central government survey, the number of girls in East Bengal to 12th standard in West Bengal is higher than the number of girls. A study released by the Unified District Information System for Education Plus states that the dropout rate among girls in the state is lower than in boys.

More than 2.32 lakh girls are enrolled in schools in 2019-20
According to the study, more than 1.87 crore students have been enrolled in West Bengal schools from pre-primary to 12th grade in the 2019-20 academic session, of which 2.32 lakh girls are enrolled. According to a survey released Tuesday, the number of girls in the state’s academic session is 94,89,902 and the number of boys is 92,57,890.

Results of an ongoing campaign for girls’ education
An official of the curriculum committee formed by the State School Education Department said, “The implementation of the Kanyashree program and the continuous campaigns of state and central governments have contributed to the success of girls’ education in rural areas.” He said the importance of educating girls from families at the social level of Bengal and campaigns against child marriage helped to achieve this.

The dropout rate for girls from schools is lower than for boys
The pre-Kovid-19 study found that in West Bengal schools the proportion of boys’ schools was 14.1 per cent and that of girls was 13.6 per cent. The state’s school leisure rate is zero in the upper primary, 5th and 7th grades, compared to the national average of 2.6 percent. The total enrollment from primary to senior secondary level in 2019-20 is over Rs 25.09 crore, which is more than Rs 26 lakh compared to the previous year, the survey said. The survey found that “the enrollment of boys across the country is 13.01 crore, while the number of girls is 12.08 crore.

Enrollment in the school has increased.
