All england draw sindhus path easier saina draws harder

Defending world champion PV Sindhu has got an easy draw in the prestigious All England Badminton Championships while Saina Nehwal will face tough rivals.

The tournament will be played from 17 to 21 March in Birmingham.

After the Swiss Open, the All England Open 2021 will be the second tournament of the year in which Tokyo will have ranking organs for Olympic qualification.

Olympic silver medalist Sindhu will play Malaysia’s Sonia Chia in the first round, as per the draw released on Tuesday by the Badminton World Federation. After winning the opening round, he will face Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi in the quarter-finals and Carolina Marin of Spain in the semi-finals.

Marin has been given the top seed in the tournament while Sindhu has been seeded fifth.

London Olympics bronze medalist Saina will play Mia Blichfeldt of Denmark in the first round.

Commonwealth Games gold medalist Parupalli Kashyap has to face world number one Kento Momota of Japan in the first match. Kidambi Srikanth will play Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia in the first round while World Championship bronze medalist B Sai Praneeth will face Toma Junior Popov of France.

The Indian players will also participate in the Swiss Open starting on March 3. Saina and Srikanth will get more time to make it to the Tokyo Olympics as the BWF has extended the qualification period.
